Today's Class

Today in class we first switched seats but I stayed in the same seat. While tow people were taking the quiz from yesterday, we were given a worksheet. A few of the answers were not found int the book and were difficult to figure out. The one side of the worksheet was just defining the words which is what we did the other day for homework. After everyone was done, we checked the worksheet and filled in any answers that we didn't get. We were told that we have a test on everything on Monday that I need to start studying for now so I can get a really good grade like I did on my last quiz.

Pg. 41 and Quiz Blog

The Terms and Names on Pg. 41 are delta, Narmer, pharaoh, theocracy, pyramid, mummification, hieroglyphic, and papyrus. To the north, near the sea, Lower Egypt includes the Nile Delta region. Narmer is more solid evidence points to a king. Pharaoh's are the Egyptian god-kings. Theocracy is a type of government in which rule is based on religious authority. For the kings of the Old Kingdom, the resting place after death was an immense structure called a pyramid. Royal and elite Egyptians' bodies were preserved by mummification, which involves embalming and drying the corpse to prevent it from decaying. Hieroglyphics was a flexible writing system. Papyrus is a better writing surface. Being surrounded by deserts benefit Egypt because the deserts shut out invaders. The Egyptians viewed pharaoh as their god. The Egyptians mummified bodies because they believed that their soul should find and recognize the body in order to live forever.

No school Blog

Today I wasn't in school so I'm not sure what we did in class today.

Today's Class Blog

Today in class we discussed our homework and turned it in. While Mr. Schick was grading them, we were told to go around the room and fill in what Hammurabi's law was for the six scenarios. Once we were done we sat down and we were told to them read and take notes in the textbook. While were taking notes he haded back our homework and I got an 8/8 on it. The notes in the textbook that I took were very important. The first title is "Pyramids in the Nile". Sumerian Civilization was on the rise. The Egyptian civilization turned out to be very different from the collection of city-states in Mesopotamia. The Geography of Egypt is the next important title. The Nile River flows northward across Africa for over 4,100 miles. The Nile River is the longest river in the world.

Hammurabi Blog

Today in class we did a worksheet with with a partner. the worksheet was on Hammurabi's code. We had to make up a punishment for same of the crimes that could have happened around that time. After we finished our worksheet, we all shared our thoughts about it. We all had either similar thoughts, or very different thoughts. After we shared some of our ideas, it was towards the end of the class. Once the bell rang we got a worksheet that we have to do for homework. The homework is easy and only has a few questions. It is on Hammurabi's Code.

Powerpoint Notes Blog

Today in class we took notes on the powerpoint again. The ziggurat was a Sumerian temple built on top of a "mountain" of earth. Sumer was conquered by the Akkadians C. 2350 B.C.- their gods took the place of previous gods and all were forced to worship them. King Hammurabi of Babylon created a series of laws known as "Hammurabi's Code". We then looked at all of the laws and there were over 200 laws. The laws were very extreme. If somebody did a crime they would immediately be sentenced to death or have a body part cut off. I was shocked to hear some of the laws that I saw.

Powerpoint Blog

Today in class we went over a powerpoint. The title of the powerpoint is "From Prehistory to Civilization Hunter/Gatherers, Mesopotamia, and Ancient Egypt". 200,000 years ago a human species emerged in southwestern Africa. 14,000 years ago, a worldwide human race existed. Earliest prehistoric age is the Paleolithic Age (Old Stone Age). Neolithic Age (New Stone Age) was marked by advanced tool making and beginnings of agriculture. The next title is "Agricultural Revolution".

Test Review Blog

Today in class we continued to take notes on the same pages that we took notes on yesterday. While taking our notes, our tests were handed back and we went over them. I didn't do as well as I expected that I would do after I took the actual test. I was still disappointed that I didn't remember the last animal so I could get a few extra credit points. I put the correct answers on the side so in the future when we have to take an exam and I can study the correct answers. After we went over the test, Mr. Schick allowed us to do our blog for the day. After we are finished our blog, then we can continue on taking the notes on the pages that were assigned for us the take notes on.

New Chapter Blog

Today in class we started a new chapter. We read pgs. 26-34 and we took notes on the pages. The title of the chapter was called "Early River Valley Civilizations 3500 B.C.- 450 B.C". In 3000 B.C., city-states form in Sumer, Mesopotamia and it is a bronze head of an Akkadian ruler. In 2500 B.C., Egypt's Old Kingdom develops and it is an Egyptian scribe statue. In 1792 B.C., Hammurabi develops code of laws for Babylonian Empire. In 1750 B.C., Indus Valley civilization declines and it is a fragment of a Harappan pot. Lastly, in 1027 B.C., Zhou Dynasty forms in China and it is the Zhou bronze vessel. The next title was a question and it was, "Why do communities need laws?". The laws holds people responsible for their actions. Someone who steals from the temple must repay 30 times the cost of the stolen item.

Test Blog

2/4/19 Today in class we took a test on the video Gun's, Germs, and Steel. The test overall was pretty easy and I think I did well on it. A few question were difficult and I hope I did well on them. The extra credit on the test was to name four more of the animals that were successfully domesticated and also weighed over 100 pounds. I thought of only of the animals and couldn't think of the last one. The name of the camel was on the tip of my tongue because I already knew the name of the other camel. I remembered studying all of the animals, but I couldn't remember the name of it. I had to erase all of the rest of the extra credit because I only had three. Towards the end of the test, I thought it was pretty easy and I am confident that I did well on it. I hope I either got an A or a B.
