Pg. 41 and Quiz Blog
The Terms and Names on Pg. 41 are delta, Narmer, pharaoh, theocracy, pyramid, mummification, hieroglyphic, and papyrus. To the north, near the sea, Lower Egypt includes the Nile Delta region. Narmer is more solid evidence points to a king. Pharaoh's are the Egyptian god-kings. Theocracy is a type of government in which rule is based on religious authority. For the kings of the Old Kingdom, the resting place after death was an immense structure called a pyramid. Royal and elite Egyptians' bodies were preserved by mummification, which involves embalming and drying the corpse to prevent it from decaying. Hieroglyphics was a flexible writing system. Papyrus is a better writing surface. Being surrounded by deserts benefit Egypt because the deserts shut out invaders. The Egyptians viewed pharaoh as their god. The Egyptians mummified bodies because they believed that their soul should find and recognize the body in order to live forever.
